Cheese on the Wey

John started on the Cheese On The Wey journey in 2017. He has always had a passion for cheese and after walking past The Old Dairy at Pierrepont Farm, the idea that he could make a business out of this passion took root. He had the vision to turn the run-down old building into the basis for an artisan cheesemaking business using milk from the farm just 200 metres away.

The refurbishment and fitting out took longer than expected as John has a full-time job in construction, but now the dairy is up and running and ready to sell cheese!

The ethos is local sourcing, local production, and local supply whilst minimising any effect on the environment. Whatever we do affects the environment and cheesemaking is no exception, but John used his experience in sustainable construction to reduce water, materials, and energy use to the minimum both in the building work and in the cheesemaking process.

Although the building is small, there was enough space to incorporate a viewing area where you can watch cheese being made.
We are very excited to be able to increase production now that the new and larger vat is up and running!

All our cheese is made from unpasteurised cow’s milk from Pierrepont Farm.

Due to the variety of cheeses and the maturing time of each one availability does vary.

Tilston Blue: semi-hard blue cheese - Available end of June

Blue Millie: medium to hard blue cheese - Available now

Millie: medium to hard cheese, similar to a Caerphilly - Available now

Weywood: soft washed rind cheese washed in Green Farm cider - Available now

Colwey: fresh cheese with a lemony tang - Available now

Tommie: an Alpine style cheese - Available mid June

Blackfriar: an Alpine style cheese, coated in grape pips and skins from the local Greyfriars vineyard - Under development

Alfred's Yellow Jersey: Dutch style cheese flavored with fenugreek seeds - Available end of June

We may also make seasonal cheeses and unique cheeses for special events, but the emphasis will always be on quality not quantity.
