The Bourne Show July 1st

Plans are well underway for the 2023 Bourne Show with the theme of Best of British to tie in with the Coronation year of King Charles III.

The Show will take place on the Bourne Green on Saturday 1st July 2023.

Why we do it

The annual Bourne Show is now 95 years old according to records from the old Bourne School. It began as a sports event and flower show in 1927. We believe it’s only been interrupted by World War and a Global Pandemic. We are attempting to archive news, memories and photos. Should you come across any, please get in touch.

Today, not only to we put on the largest flower show in the locality, but we hope to provide the whole community with a chance to celebrate the summer, marvel at local talent and enjoy all the good things on offer.

All of the money raised each year donated to back to LOCAL charities and good causes. In 2022, these included: Bourne WI, Farnham Foodbank, Woodlarks Campsite, Farnham Assist, 5th Farnham Scouts, The Hedgehogs, the Bourne Green Pavilion project and more.

What we do

On the first Saturday in July the show opens at 12.30pm to allow attendees to choose lunch from some of the many foodie stalls. The flower show in the grand Marquee opens at 1.30pm and contains the most wonderful array of creative works and produce – including artwork from our local infant school children, to traditional displays of fruit, veg and flowers – as well as jams, chutneys and sponges. Beautiful sewn pieces, paintings and 3D art also join the children’s creative works – judged in age categories.

The centre of the green is the spot for the main arena, where everyone can enjoy displays, children’s races and the dog show.

And the rest of the green is packed with stalls (selling a variety of items from food, to clothing, bric a brac, second hand books and much more), ice cream vans, goodies and games for the younger generation – and of course, our much loved Vintage Car collection.

The show finishes up around 4.30pm. Which gives just enough time for clearing up before the evening’s (ticket only) entertainment (The Big Bourne Bash) begins.

Why we need you

As you can imagine, there is a great deal of organising that goes into such an extravaganza. An event like this demands the support of many different people, from all sections of our local community. While we are committed to treasuring and preserving our traditional displays, we’d also love fresh ideas on how to keep our locals entertained year on year.

What we need you to do

Can you help us in any of these areas?

  • Growing/donating plants for our plant stall (starting now!)

  • Baking cakes and goodies for our cake stall.

  • Help transport (sometimes heavy) infrastructure items such as signage, staging, chairs, tables.

  • Help set up on the day.

  • Help on a stall for an hour on the day (cakes/plants/raffle stall)

  • Help pack up, pick up litter, take down trestle tables
