The Bourne Blades

The Bourne Blades Football Club is our most popular local community sports club, now boasting over 950 registeredmembers and currently running no less than 30 teams! We operate 2-3 teams at most age-groups, starting from children in School Year 2 (U7s training and matches) and with 2 dedicated girls’ teams. The club also runs a Seniors team and 2 Veterans (over 35) teams, the most mature of which (the “Casuals”) is made up almost exclusively of players in their 50s & 60s – kindly referred to as The White Walkers!. All ages and abilities are welcome and training and matches all generally take place within a 20 minute radius of Farnham.

The Blades were started by four local parents (including the Bourne Sports Club Chairman Brian Copeman) in the early 2000s. All the early matches were played on the sloping surface of the Bourne Green and the youngest age groups still begin their football journey on the Green on playing fields situated up the northern end, squeezed between the cricket field and the playground. Older sides play their matches in various locations including Weydon School, Frensham Cricket Ground and Waverley Abbey School. The club have been looking for their own dedicated site in recent years.

The Blades play in their distinctive striped strip of Green (naturally) and White. The club badge bears the smiling face of a fox in honour of the foxes that occasionally stroll across the football pitches and to warn opponents that our footballers are as wily as they are skilful.

The Bourne Blades Veterans have toured to many of Europe’s footballing hotspots including Germany, France, Spain, Portugal and Croatia. Although what goes on those tours generally stays on those tours, the trip to Berlin was extended by the travel ban implemented as a result of the ash flow from the Iceland volcano eruption, leading to everyone staying on tour for an additional 24 hours!

To apply for a place in the Bourne Blades the player must live within the GU10 or GU9 postcodes and must be in the school system (i.e. no pre-Reception applications).

Alternatively, many players enjoy the Saturday morning football training at Weydon School run by SCL. These courses are run by qualified coaches and provide a good introduction to football training and competitive mini matches.
